About

Hi! It’s nice to meet you. I’m Hannah, the founder of HV Editorial.

I’m an editor who works with self-publishing authors, authors preparing their manuscripts for submission, and traditional publishers. I’m an eclectic reader and edit a variety of fiction and nonfiction, focusing on romance novels, middle grade in all genres, and academic press books.

Before becoming a freelance editor, I worked as a New York literary agent’s assistant, serving as a fresh pair of eyes on romance and middle grade manuscripts. I saw self-published and traditional authors alike collaborate with agents, publishers, and editors to build rewarding careers for themselves. After that, I was an English teacher and exam copyeditor for six years.

When copyediting standardized exams, I had to work in the utmost secrecy and wasn’t permitted to take the exam pages out of a sequestered room in my state’s capitol building. While I don’t especially miss the bureaucratic setting, I take that commitment to total confidentiality into every project I edit.

I’m a member of ACES: The Society for Editing and the Editorial Freelancers Association. I earned my certificate in copyediting from UC San Diego in 2017. I received my BA in East Asian Studies from New York University, where I read lots of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese literature.

I’ve lived in America, France, and Japan. When I’m not obsessively reading everything I can get my hands on, I love spending time outdoors. My hobbies include hiking, birdwatching, and trying different teas.

Because writers deserve to know that their editors maintain industry standards, I like to be transparent about the coursework I’ve taken.
